Overview: cdbCopy will be a two part program that runs both on your PC & your Palm to quickly & easily copy cdb (or cdi) databases to your Palm without using Hotsync. Ideal for developers who need to update information to their customers & don't want them subjected to the complexities of installing & managing conduits. For instance, your customer could easily download the latest info from your site, or process data on their PC to produce a cdb (or cdi) database, then quickly update his or her Palm. cdbCopy will also be a handy development tool.
How it works: User will place (or process) their cdb (or cdi) file on the PC, then run cdbCopy & tell it where the cdb file is. cdbCopy will parse the cdb file & create a list of data to send to the serial port. When this is accomplished, the user will be informed that cdbCopy is 'Ready to Send'. The user then runs cdbRecv on their Palm. When the PC displays 'Ready to Send', just press the RecvCdb button & wait for the download.
Upon execution of the Palm side of the program, the user will be presented with two buttons: 'RecvCdb' & 'ViewCdb'. To begin receiving the database, the user presses the 'RecvCdb' button, then monitors the progress on the PC progress bar. When the transfer is complete, both the PC & the Palm will announce that they are 'Done'. The user may then press the 'ViewCdb' button to browse the records of the newly transferred cdb. That's it.
Installation: PC side: unzip the cdbCopy into a temporary folder, run setup.exe from that folder, and follow the on-screen prompts. After the installation you will be prompted to configure the PC port settings. Palm side: Place the furnished lcalc.prc in your Palm user subdirectory, then using the Hotsync install tool, install to your Palm. WindowsCE or PocketPC users: (not done yet..)
